New Clients
As a potential new client, you can expect that I will return your call to discuss the feasibility of our working together. (On occasion, when I am busy, my secretary may call first to discuss logistics such as your time availability for sessions and insurance coverage.) We can briefly discuss what your issues are and if I might be able to help. I am happy to answer questions about me that you might have. If we seem to be a good fit, we will set up an appointment. Please bring New Patient Registration Forms with you to your first appointment.
Confidentiality
The client-psychologist relationship is a confidential and privileged one; it is protected by law and ethical code. It is the cornerstone of trust that allows for openness and growth in therapy. It is equally important for adult, child and adolescent clients. I may not divulge your private information without your written consent unless I believe you are an imminent threat to yourself or another person, or if you are endangering a child or an elderly person.
Confidentiality presents certain challenges when working with children and adolescents. Children age 14 and older must consent to the release of their confidential information. For more information on handling child and adolescent confidentiality click here.
Session Details
Psychotherapy sessions involve face to face visits which generally last 45 minutes. I see most people weekly or bi-weekly. Length of treatment can be difficult to determine and is discussed on an individual basis.
Cancellation Policy
Therapy requires a commitment to regular attendance. It is the continuity of care that contributes to the flow and success of our work together. When you schedule an appointment with me, I reserve that time for you. Consequently, without 24 hours notice, I will bill you for the visit. Insurance does not cover this and you will be responsible for the fee at your next session.
Insurance
I participate in a very limited number of insurance panels. Regardless of my participation status, I encourage clients to become familiar with their mental health insurance coverage. Some important things to understand include:
• Can you go in and out of network?
• What is your deductible and co-pay for each?
• Does your insurance require pre-certification before and during treatment?
